I think it means you can be born into a rich family and still fail, just the same as you can be born into poverty and have great success in life.
Success for one person is not necessarily, success for someone else.
I kind of have to agree to this quote because it is true that brain(choice) is a power and key to success. On the other hand, circumstances mix with bad luck can turn your life to hell.
